Whiling Away the Time
Jul. 3rd, 2007 03:59 pmI'm at work later than usual because I took the boy in for a physical for camp this morning and therefore was late. We zipped in and out of the Dr office, though.
I recently got the boy a Tracfone. For those that don't know, it's a prepaid cell phone - I have one, too. I just don't use my cell that much. At any rate, we had a problem with the sim card in the phone in that it kept coming up unregistered. I called Tracfone and went through the steps with the tech support person, by the end of 45 minutes, she told me that I would have to call back the next day because the office she needed to talk to wasn't open. Ok. I call back, go through 40+ minutes of crap again. Now I'm told they'll try to change the phone number on the phone and that it will take one to four hours. Ok. Two days later, still no number change. Another phone call. Another loooong call. 60 minutes. I insist on talking to a supervisor. I'm told that this time, they will definitely change the number but that it will take 2 - 5 DAYS. I suggest they send me a new sim card. It doesn't fly. One week later, the phone is still not working. I call again. This time, I get someone who thinks maybe a new sim card will fix the problem. I'll get it in 3 - 5 days. Fine. I got the card today. Hooray! We'll see if it works. I sure hope it does. I'm really tired of the long calls.
The weather here has been so good lately, it feels like I'm not living in Wisconsin. It's been sunny and warm for weeks. Maybe Hell is freezing over. :) The Mulberry tree in the yard has been dropping berries like crazy. I got purple feet the other day when I was out in the yard plucking them off the lower branches and eating them. Purple fingers, too.
Tomorrow will be the first Fourth of July that franboy isn't going to do the doll buggy parade. It's a pretty big thing in the neighborhood. Early in the morning on the Fourth, two groups form, one south and one north of a main street. Volunteers hand out small flags. The two groups march toward one another - the southern group led by a small marching band and the northern group (that's us) led by a giant Statue of Liberty on stilts ::g:: and a drumming group. It's very cool. When the two groups meet, we march down the big street (it's been blocked off temporarily by patrol cars) to a nearby park. There is a judging based different categories of decorations. Bikes, wagons, floats... and on the theme for the year. Think 'melting pot' and 'what freedom means to me.' And there are prizes! The boy one several different things over the years, most recently, a big Super Soaker. I'll miss the parade. OTOH, this year, we won't have to get up at the crack of dawn, which is a plus. Sleep is good.
