[personal profile] ropo , read this:

California's Budget Crisis, Explained: In August, the state legislature reached a compromise in a long-standing, intensely debated issue with the state's owners of pet ferrets. Though the animals are banned by the state as crop menaces, the legislation would grant legal status to all existing pet ferrets whose owners pay a $75-per-head fee. However, even though the state desperately needs the revenue, the money raised cannot be used for anything except a study to determine whether the state can tolerate more ferrets. BWAHAHAHAAAA! I must find Boo (AKA Skeeter) and trap him and make him mine! LOL @ "crop menaces." I live in LOS ANGELES. We have no crops. That's just ... I had no idea that was their reasoning. I just thought they were ferret-haters!

Well, you never know when one of those crop menacing ferrets will escape someone's LA apartment, hop a bus, and go out and start eating away like crazy...

I'm going to look up getting a skunk in Wisconsin. Our conversation reminded me of past pet ambitions.
